props
During the making of the OTS, it is important to make sure that you catch the audience's eye so then they are paying attention to the film so they continue watching as they are interested. one way of doing this is through the use of props.
Hospital bed:
At the start of the OTS we see a patient led in a hospital bed. This gets the audiences attention because a hospital is one of the classic locations for a horror film so the bed is a way of showing that the location at the start of the OTS is a hospital. Also as hospitals are related to horror films this will make the audience feel as if something bad/horrific is going to happen so it makes them want to continue watching. However, a hospital bed is a place where people are when they are being helped by a doctor to become well again but as this is a horror film the opposite is going to happen, so this could also confuse the audience and leaving them curious to see what happens next as they see a hospital bed as a good thing as it is related to sick people becoming well again.
Syringe:
Also near the start of the OTS the audience will see a doctor injecting the 'victim' with the syringe, this will get the audience's attention as lots of people are afraid of syringes and getting an injection so this will creep them out and make them feel uncomfortable whilst watching. Also the purpose of getting an injection is to stop you from getting diseases, so they help you but as this is a horror film the injection is the start of all the horrific things that happen in the film. Therefore, this confuses the audience as they don't know what is going to happen next because one part of them thinks that the syringe is a positive thing that is in place to help the 'victim' but then also there is the suspicion as it is a horror film so something bad is obviously going to happen. This leaves the audience curious about what is going to happen next so they are clued to the screen and carry on watching the film.
