Audience Questionnaire
We asked 10 people what their likes and dislikes are in a horror film. This would help us experiment with the interests of the target audience.
We asked these ten questions:
What is your favourite time period for a horror and why?
3 out of 10 people said modern day as it is more realistic and it would be even better in day-light. This is because watching a horror film with scenes in daylight, it makes you feel more relaxed as nothing usually happens during the day. 2 out of 10 said the Victorian era. This is because of the old fashioned houses and the pollution in the air from the chimneys. 4 people said that they would like their horror to be in any time period, they didn't have a preference. This is because, they find any horror scary as long as its in the right setting. 1 person said they would like their horror to be in the future because in the future you don't know what could happen.It's all about the element of surprise.

What is your favourite genre of film and why?
5 out of 10 people said slasher because in horror films, it is the blood and torture in the film that gets their skin crawling. It makes them feel sick, however it gives them the attitude and determination to continue watching the film. This is because they want to see what the rest of the film has to offer. 3 out of 10 people said thriller as it is all about the element of surprise. not knowing where the killer is or what scary event will happen next makes them want to continue to watch the film. 2 out of ten people said physiological as they like the film to have them thinking. They dont want it to be a cliche film where you know what will happen. They want the film to have many plot twists and cliffhangers.

What are your fears and why?
1 out of 10 people said that they are scared of enclosed spaces in complete darkness. This is because they are afraid of not being able to move anywhere and they are afraid of the thought of the unknown. A lift is the smallest space that they can tolerate. 6 people said that they were afraid of the dark. This is because the darik is such a cliche time of the day where bad things are most likely to take place. They said that they would also feel very vulnerable in the dark as the majority of people would be asleep. 3 out of 10 people went with the obvious choice of spiders. This is because they don't like the fact how the can crawl all over you. 1 of the 3 added that they hate the thought of being tied up on the floor and have snakes and spiders poured all over them.

What is your favourite horror film and why?
The films that we got were:
> Saw- Because they like the gore and the fact that it makes them feel sick.
> Woman In Black- Because they liked the thought of the unknown and the jump scares.
> Conjuring 1&2- They like how it is unpredictable. And they like how a lot of it is fast paced.
> Blair Witch Project- They like this because they don't know what is real and what isnt. It takes the voyeuristic elements away and makes you think.

In an ideal scenario, how would you want the victim to die?
5 out of 10 people wanted their victim to die from intense torture by the killer. 4 out of 10 people said they wanted the victim to die by the paranormal activity. 1 person said that they wanted the victim to take their own life by saving another victim in the film.

Who is your favourite villain?
3 out of 10 people said that they quite like the nun from the conjuring because she is hidden throughout of the film. They also like the fact how she contradicts the stereotype of a nun as a nun is usually loving and caring. Whereas this one kills. 4 people said they like Jigsaw from Saw. they said this because Jigsaw himself doesn't kill the victims. He plays with them and gets the victims to kill each other. you also don't see him in person just over a TV screen. 3 out of 10 people said the old time classic Freddie Krueger from A Nightmare On Elm Street. This old time classic is a 1984 American supernatural slasher written and directed by Wes Craven.

What is your favourite horror location?
The majority of the 10 people asked said they wanted their horror film in a haunted mansion. For example, 6 out of the 10 people said they would like their horror film in a house similar to the one off the Woman In Black. 2 people said they would like their horror to be set in a school, the reason for this being you spend a lot of time in there. 2 people said they would like the horror to be set in their own house because they would feel safe.

What would make you want to see a horror film?
Every single person said that in order for them to want to see the horror film, they would need to be presented with a decent trailer. This is because if they were shown a trailer that wasn't very convincing, they wouldn't give it a second thought. The 10 people asked also said they think a good source of propaganda would be needed. For example, a well designed poster with a catchphrase and bold writing will be eye catching.

What would make your ideal horror?
Every single person said that they would want to see the killer in the horror film. that being a human killer, or a supernatural killer. 6 people said that they want all the victims to die in a gory, bloody way. This allows the audience to lose that attachment with the character that has died and that will fill them with sadness. 4 people said that they want the victim to survive and for there to be a sequel. This would leave the audience wanting more leading them to watch the next film.

What wouldn't you like to see in a horror?
8 out of 10 people said that they wouldn't want to see any cringe sex scenes as they find it quite cliche. 2 out of 10 people said they don't want to see the death of any infant or younger children. Along with the death of animals.
