Horror conventions
A horror convention is something that occurs in most horror movies as they are the stereotypical things to happen within a horror film.
One of the most common horror movie conventions is the use of jump scares. A jump scare is when there is a short or prolonged build up of tension and then a sudden high pitch noise normally a screech like sound and a figure or a objects comes into frame.

Another horror convention is using dumb young teenage girls as the main victims. They normally use these girls as victims because they are vulnerable targets they will usually run into situations that will get them killed easier. An example of this would be the casey from scream because when she is being chased by the killer she decides to run around the house making herself more vulnerable, this shows the stereotype that the dumb bonde girl is killed first and makes a horrible attempt to escape the killer.
Another horror convection is a rocking chair in a quiet room to make the audience feel on edge for a jump scare, an example of this is when Arthur kipps (Daniel Radcliff) walks into a empty room to find a rocking chair and after the chair has build some tension a small child is shown in the chair and a loud screech noise is used to scare the audience.
Another horror convection is when a phone rings just after the character has experienced something that has scared them, for example a door slamming, footsteps or hearing a voice echoing , we see this multiple times throughout the Scream franchise, this is an effective method of building up tension then proceeding to scare the audience using a jump scare.
